ACCA GHANA 10TH ANNIVERSARY AND LAUNCH OF NEW ACCA QUALIFICATION
Accra, Ghana, April 2007Organized under the title 'ACCA Ghana @10: Upholding professionalism and ethics', the anniversary and launch event began in the morning, when guests arrived and were welcomed with traditional dances. HE Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the vice president of Ghana, then opened the event, applauding ACCA Ghana for its increased collaboration with other accountancy bodies, including the Ghana Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAG). The ACCA Ghana Branch president then welcomed delegates and, along with ACCA president Dennis Yeates, joined the vice president to cut a special 10th anniversary cake, thereby declaring the anniversary celebrations officially underway.
Dennis Yeates then spoke about the new ACCA Qualification, explaining that, as a dynamic organisation, ACCA constantly reviewed its syllabus to reflect current trends in the profession as well as employer demands. As a member of IFAC, it was also necessary to introduce the Ethics module in order to meet IFAC’s requirements.
Two founding members of the ACCA Ghana Branch then received awards; S O Annan, an ACCA International Assembly (IA) member was honoured for his commitment to the Branch since its inauguration, and former IA member Nii Quaye Mensah was recognised for his pioneering role in the establishment of the Branch.
Delegates also watched a short documentary entitled 'The ACCA Ghana Story', after which the programme was concluded by the chair, Moses Anibaba, director of the British Council Ghana.
Delegates The event was attended by 320 students, including executives from all CCASSIG branches, as well as students from IPS. (these abbreviations in full?) Over 300 members and affiliates from Accra were also present, as were 20 representatives from Approved Employers. Government officials at the event included the Minister of Education, the Hon Papa Owusu Ankomah; the Hon Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of the Interior; the Hon Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State at the Office of the President; the Auditor General, Edward Dua Agyemang; and the Hon Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Minister for Youth and Employment.
Representatives of 13 tuition providers were also in the audience, along with representatives from ICAG and CIMA, and 24 reporters from various TV and radio stations, and from publications in Accra.

Press coverage
A press soiree was held in advance of the event at which ACCA Ghana office staff, together with the Branch committee, met representatives of the Ghana media. As a result the event attracted considerable press coverage, including the following:
- The Daily Graphic carried a story on the visit of ACCA president, Dennis Yeates.
- GTV Breakfast Show, aired live on national TV, featured Zuwera Ibrahimah Mohammed Ignatius Asare, FCCA (finance director, Ghacem).
- Unique FM, the regional radio station for the Greater Accra Region, interviewed Richard Gyasi Kwaa, the ACCA Member and Employer Liaison Officer.
