ACCA Singapore Annual Conference

The accounting profession and the accountancy services sector in Singapore are undergoing many dramatic changes in the aftermath of the Committee to Develop the Accountancy Sector (CDAS)’s Final Report issued in April 2010. This comes against the backdrop of the Economic Strategies Committee’s (ESC) reports which provide a comprehensive plan to boost economic performance through a slew of recommendations and initiatives. Amidst this transformation process, it would be appropriate to stop and ask: Where am I? and Where are we going?

To help you answer these crucial questions, this Conference will focus on the one matter that will be of particular importance to you, as an employer or an employee during this period; it can be crystallized in one word: “Talent!” The ESC believes that Singapore should grow a more vibrant and diverse corporate ecosystem by attracting and rooting more MNCs here. CDAS has proposed to develop Singapore into a leading Asia-Pacific Accountancy Services Centre by promoting Singapore as a hub for globally recognised accountancy organisations and centres of excellence. For these purposes key recommendations have been made that are expected to boost the inflow of accounting talent to Singapore.

Appropriately, therefore, this Conference will include a high level panel discussion on: Attracting and Rooting Accounting Professionals and Organisations in Singapore – Strategies and Challenges.

It will bring together diverse expertise from the accounting and finance profession and regulatory agencies to share their perspectives on how you (the accountant, the CFO, the auditor and the finance professional) can identify and address the inevitable challenges and seize the opportunities that will arise during this transformation process that is expected to last the next 5 to 10 years.

A high-level panel of experts will address, among other questions, the following:
- How can we attract, develop and retain a growing talent pool of accountancy professionals; including CFOs, auditors, tax and valuation experts; with international and regional expertise?
- How do we enhance linkages between professional accountancy organisations in the region? In what ways can we assist professional accountancy organisations to develop linkages and opportunities to deliver products and services regionally and internationally? What types of services and expertise would be exportable?
- How will the expected large inflow of accounting talent affect salaries and career opportunities for existing accounting professionals?

One-Stop Technical Update
This Conference will also include an informative technical session that will provide participants with a comprehensive update on all the relevant changes and significant developments in financial reporting, audit, tax and the legal environment since the last Annual Conference in a nutshell. Well-known experts in the relevant fields will flag all the important updates for your attention – cutting down your time in accessing this information on your own.

Who will benefit from this Conference?
CEOs, CFOs, Finance Directors & Controllers of Companies, Internal & External Auditors, Business Directors & Managers, Accountants in all sectors, including public practice, listed corporations, SMEs and the Government.
